Disability Education Program

The Australian Sports Commission’s Disability Education Program (DEP) assists sport and physical activity providers to better include people with disabilities in sport and physical activity. The program provides training, resource material and an ongoing support network for teachers, coaches, sports administrators, facility managers and community leaders to help them include people with disabilities in their activities.

Sports Ability Program 

The Australian Sports Commission’s Sports Ability Program is an inclusive activities program which targets young people in special education settings. The program is based around five activities: Boccia, Goalball, Sitting Volleyball, Polybat and Table Cricket. All the activities have the opportunity for integration of young people who have disabilities and their non-disabled peers.

Wheelchair Sports NSW

The Arrive Alive Wheelchair Sports Roadshow has been running since 1998. It raises awareness of wheelchair sports, creates a greater understanding of people with disabilities and includes the ‘Arrive Alive’ and associated road safety messages.

Wheelchair Sports Victoria

Visiting thousands of school students every year throughout Victoria, ‘Wheel Talk’ is one of WSV’s most successful and popular programs. Students take part in an interactive session, learning about the skills and abilities of athletes in wheelchairs and the important issue of spinal cord injury prevention. The presenters offer an intriguing insight into the world of wheelchair sport and living with a disability and their passion for sport makes for a lasting impact on everyone involved.

Wheelchair Sports WA Association

Wheelchair Sports WA conduct a basketball program which allows school children throughout WA to understand what it is like to have a disability and what it’s like to be a Paralympic athlete. The program can be structured to suit your schools needs.

QLD Sporting Wheelies and Disabled Association

Association staff and members are regularly involved in delivering presentations to school groups, running disability sports demonstrations and ‘challenges’, setting up displays at community events and other promotional activities to help raise the profile of the association, its services and the participation of people with a disability in sport and physical activity.

    If your class wants to send an athlete actual letters/cards then please post: c/ Sarah Whitaker, PO Box 596, Sydney Markets NSW 2129 and all correspondence will be passed on to the athlete.
