Clare Burzynski first represented Australia at Spitfire in Canada in 2005. The following year, she was part of the World Championship Gold Cup team in Amsterdam. That competition brought Clare both her greatest sporting moment – when she made her first basket in the competition – and her lowest – when the team placed fourth.
Nonetheless, her proudest moment remains the time she first wore the Australian uniform.
Clare, who describes herself as loving, crazy and outspoken, has been a complete paraplegic since a car accident in 1989, and once got her wheelchair stuck in a tram track in the middle of traffic. She is currently studying a Bachelor of Legal Studies at Murdoch University, majoring in criminology.
Clare’s ambition for the future is to become an All Star 5 and lists former Paralympic basketballer, Alison Mosely, as the most influential person in her career. She is hoping to help Australia to victory at this year’s Beijing Paralympics.
