Damien Bowen is an outgoing 24 year old who loves to have a laugh; however this self-confessed larrikin knows when to switch to competition mode. With his sights set on victory in Beijing, Damien is training to throw the discus further than he has ever done before.
Born with cerebral palsy, Damien loves both the seated discus and javelin but is focusing on javelin at Beijing. He has moved speedily through the ranks under coach John Minns since making his first Australian team in 2006, where he competed in the seated discus at the FESPIC Games in Kuala Lumpur.
He also represents the Queanbeyan Athletics Club and is using his knowledge and skills as a professional athlete to study a human movement and exercise degree at the University of Western Australia.
When he is not training, Damien can be found soaking up the sun and surf at the beach or relaxing at home. This larrikin’s personal message for others is to: “Sing loud in the shower, that way you’ll only damage your own ears.”
