Evan O’Hanlon was involved in athletics at a school level, but was encouraged by a PE teacher to explore the possibility of competing as an athlete with a disability. He was linked to a coach through the Australian Paralympic Committee Talent Identification Program and has never looked back.
Because Evan is at boarding school, his track training is limited but he still manages to fit in six days of either track or gym training.
The highlight of Evan’s short career so far is winning gold medals in the 100m and 200m at both the German Nationals and European Championships in 2005 on his first international tour.
Evan has had trouble with painful shin splints but has managed to get them under control.
His main goal for the future is to beat Tim Sullivan, the current world record holder, again and again and again –this strong competitive streak spurring him on to reach the heights of success.
