Gemma Buccholz

When Queensland girl Gemma Buchholz first began competing in her chosen athletic events, little did she realise that seven months later she would be representing her country in Switzerland.

The talented athlete, who competes as a mild quadriplegic following a car accident, has a scholarship with the QAS as well as the Queensland Sporting Wheelies. Gemma trains with her local club, Queensland Victory under the expert coaching of Deb Smith and represented Australia at Athens in 2004 and the World Games at Assen in 2006.

When not training, the bubbly and fun girl works in childcare, a job she loves. Known by her friends to be a bit on the naughty side, easy going and honest, Gemma comes from a sporting family with her brother Ben being one of the top ten elite triathletes in Australia.

If selected for Beijing, Gemma is hoping to achieve personal bests in each of her events.
