Katy Parrish

When Katy Parrish isn’t terrorising the streets of Adelaide while she learns to drive, she is tearing up the race track as she aims for victory at the Beijing Paralympics.

Katy’s favourite quote is that ‘’it’s all good”, and it certainly has been on the track ever since she began competing in 2006. Since then, she has regularly made the finals in the 100m and 200m sprints at athletics championships in Australia.

Katy, who was born with cerebral palsy, lists the 2007 Arafura Games as her career highlight so far, where she finished first in both the sprint races. Currently ranked as the number one Australian sprinter in her category, Katy will be hoping to continue her form in Beijing at what will hopefully be her first Paralympic Games.

Apart from athletics, Katy has also tried her hand at several other sports including netball, water polo and touch football. In the future she hopes to continue a career in sport, working as a sports photographer. If all else fails, she may even be able to take up a career in modelling, as she has already appeared in a department store catalogue.

For now though, Katy is focused on her goal of a medal at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics, which is looking like a real possibility.
