Kelly Cartwright

Kelly Cartwright was forced to make a difficult decision when cancer was discovered in her leg. She could either have it amputated or undergo an operation. She elected the amputation, and now is looking forward to competing in her first Paralympic Games.

Her prosthetic leg has since created some amusing situations for Kelly. She says that it always sends off the x-ray alarm at airports, and after leaving her leg behind at a party she was shocked to discover it later in the night being used as a cup for beer. Getting the smell out was difficult.

Kelly has always been involved in sport, winning a few best and fairest awards for competition netball. She describes her proudest moment, however, as running with her proper running prosthesis without falling. Kelly is an ambassador and face of the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

When at home, Kelly loves to cook and chill out with her Burmese cat, who is also an amputee. Australia can look forward to some fast times in the 100m sprint and plenty of smiles from Kelly at the Beijing Paralympics.
