Prue Watt

Prue Watt has already established herself as one of the most successful Paralympians from Athens bringing home 5 Silver Medals and 1 Bronze medal Prue was awarded the 2004 Female Junior Paralympian of the Year for her achievements. Prue Watt was born premature at 24 weeks and the high levels of oxygen in her system resulted in damaged retina’s which limited Prue’s vision seriously. Prue can see approximately 2 meters ahead of her and she has a limited amount of peripheral vision. Prue’s vision impairment is labelled Retinopathy of Prematurity and her blindness has presented many challenges, however Prue has learnt to adapt her life to ensure she lives a normal and successful life. Prue is currently in her first year of Science at the Newcastle University.

Prue believes she was given her disability for a reason. Prue believes that her disability has made her more determined to succeed at everything she does. Prue was selected for her first Australian team at the age of 15 to compete at the IPC World Championships in Argentina. Prue won 2 Bronze medals at her first World Championships. Prue currently holds Australian Records in all her contested events.
