Rod Farr’s ultimate goal is to become rich and famous. A gold medal on the field at the Beijing Paralympics may be the first step as Rod trains to have his best throw yet in the discus.
Rod permanently injured his spine after a swimming accident and become involved in disabled sport. He first competed for Australia in the 2002 World Championships in France, where he won a bronze medal in the discus and finished in sixth in the shot put and eighth in the javelin. In 2006, at the following World Championships, Rod’s improvement was clear. He won a silver medal in the discus as well as the shot put and finished fifth in the javelin.
When he’s not throwing things, Rod enjoys watching AFL and avidly takes part in tipping competitions. He was once a professional AFL player and is also a TAFE lecturer in cabinet making. Describing himself as extremely driven when it comes to sport, Rod is aiming to improve on his previous results and win gold at the Beijing Games.
