Sarah Bowen

Sarah Bowen is one of the most successful Paralympians on the Australian Swimming Squad and is an inspiration and a role model for many of the younger members of the team.

Sarah performed exceedingly well at the 2004 Athens Paralympics where she won a gold medal in world record time in the 100m breaststroke. Also in 2004, she broke the world record for the 50m breaststroke and 50m backstroke. Sarah hopes to defend her Paralympic title at the Beijing Games in 2008.

She began swimming when she was six years old and is now one of the most experienced members of the Australian Swimming Team. She describes herself as extremely focused, determined and slightly superstitious, touching her goggles three times before every race.

When she’s not swimming, Sarah works as a swim teacher and childcare worker. She believes people should never give up on their dreams and is working hard to achieve gold at the Beijing Games.
