Who is Lizzie?

Lizzy

Lizzie the Lizard is the official mascot of the Australian Paralympic Committee and Australia’s Paralympic Teams.

Lizzie loves Paralympic sport and wants all those around her to feel the same frill-tingling excitement she gets when watching Australia’s Paralympic athletes  compete against the best in the world.

Inspired by our Paralympians to follow her dreams, Lizzie travels around Australia’s big cities and country towns, sharing the Paralympic spirit with all Australians.

When she’s not travelling and trying new things, Lizzie still enjoys the luxuries of a lizard life, catching rays of sunshine or climbing trees whenever she gets the chance.

But with her warm, friendly, larrikin nature, she doesn’t have much time for swanning around in the sun. Instead her contagious excitement for Paralympic sport spreads like wildfire to all who meet her.

Lizzie loves to keep active and play sport, especially Paralympic sports such as GoalballGoalball is a sport where the object is to roll the ball past the opposition defence and into the opponent’s goal. A bell inside the competition ball enables defending players to hear it and move to stop it going through the goal., WheelchairThis refers to a group of athletes with a disability who are eligible to compete in wheelchair events. Some of the conditions resulting in eligibility into wheelchair events are: paraplegia, quadriplegia, spina bifida, poliomyelitis, amputee, cerebral palsy. Rugby, cycling and lots more.....

Lizzie’s BIG event

Lizzie the Lizard had a great time celebrating Education Week in NSW at the South Western Sydney Region Public Education Ambassadors Forum on August 4th 2011 at ANZ Stadium at Sydney Olympic Park.

Our Paralympians Annabelle Williams (swimming) and Jayme Paris Richardson (cycling) were special guest speakers at the event where they met 250 students from Years 2-12 and representing 277 schools in the South Western Sydney region.

Lizzie gave a lot of high fives and handed out plenty of gifts to the students. Here are some of the photos Lizzie wanted to share with you!
